ISI has listed the basic steps for a church to become involved in ministry to international students. These steps apply only to churches in areas where there are currently ISI staff ministering on a local campus. If you do not have ISI staff in your area, please contact ISI's Volunteer Services Department.
- Your church becomes an Affiliate with ISI.
- Your church appoints a Church Team Leader with input from ISI staff.
- ISI's Church Team Trainer (or appointed staff person) meets regularly with Church Team Leader.
- Together, we identify a campus and/or students and coordinate the relationship with ISA/FSA.
- The Church Team Leader recruits a team.
- Recruit a prayer team for the ministry.
- ISI provides Church Team Training.
- Present the vision and passion of the ISI ministry to the church congregation.
- Hold a brief informational meeting for those interested in more information.
- Recruit Friendship Partners and additional team members.
- ISI provides Friendship Partner Training.
- Your church hosts activities for Americans and international students.
- Present testimonies about the ministry to the congregation on an ongoing basis to build awareness and grow the ministry.
- Offer evangelism and discipleship opportunities to students (including distribution of Jesus videos and Bibles in most languages).
- Forward student names to ISI as they leave the area for follow-up and continued ministry.
- The team and outreach of the church will grow from year to year as more people are recruited for involvement, diverse ministries to students are created, student needs are discerned and met, and congregational awareness, interest and commitment grows.
